One Trip To Our Dentist in Charlotte
An excessive gum line can result in what is known as a “gummy smile,” causing teeth to appear small and uneven, contributing to a lack of confidence in many people. At Stout Dentistry, nothing brings us more joy than changing our patients’ lives by giving them a new smile they’re proud to present to the world. By using laser dental technology, Dr. Stout can reshape your gum tissue and improve the appearance of your smile, with little to no pain and in just one visit.
What is Laser Dentistry?
A laser produces a very narrow, intense beam of light energy. When it comes into contact with the gum tissue, this light can be used to remove or reshape tissue. Laser gum line reshaping is a safe and effective procedure that can be applied after administering local anesthesia. Dr. Stout will then use a soft tissue laser to cut through your gum line while sealing blood vessels and nerve endings. This will reshape the gum to expose more tooth structure and reduce that “gummy smile.” It sounds painful, but really, it isn’t! Most people experience very little pain associated with laser gum line reshaping, the most painful part being the anesthesia.
Is Laser Dentistry Safe?
Laser dentistry has been used since 1990 for a number of dental procedures, including the treatment of gum disease and tooth decay, in addition to gum line reshaping. Use of a dental laser is just as safe as other dental tools. Dr. Stout has been trained through Sirona Dental Systems and has been recontouring gums using soft tissue lasers for 14 years.

How Long is the Healing Time?
Healing time after laser gum line reshaping is quite brief with minimal pain, as gums tend to heal quickly. Chances of developing infection with laser treatment are low compared to traditional dental gum reshaping procedures. Avoid eating hard, chewy, and spicy foods for a few days after the procedure and switch to a soft toothbrush. You may experience some discomfort, which can be treated with some simple over the counter pain reliever.
